Our Commitment to Native Communities and the Land
Hua Nani Partners (HNP) is a Native Hawaiian-owned business with staff across the country.
Hua Nani Partners is based in the paeʻāina of Hawaiʻi, on the mokupuni of Oʻahu. HNP recognizes that her majesty Queen Liliʻuokalani yielded the Hawaiian Kingdom and its territories under duress and protest to the United States to avoid the bloodshed of her people, and that Hawai‘i remains an illegally occupied state of America. We are grateful that generations of Native Hawaiians and their knowledge systems continue to shape Hawaiʻi in sustainable ways that ground and guide us as an organization.
Beyond Hawai‘i, our team lives and works on Native lands spanning from the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary lands of the Nisenan people in Sacramento, California to the Powhatan people in Richmond, Virginia.
We acknowledge and honor with gratitude the land and waterways of these places and recognize all the ancestors that have walked and lived on these lands, and the traditions, systems and knowledge that were born of these places.
We acknowledge that these lands were taken through violent, unlawful, and dishonest means. We also acknowledge that the violent trauma experienced by Native people as a result of the dispossession of their homelands - including death and displacement of countless individuals - remains deeply felt and experienced today.
In providing this land acknowledgement, we recognize our kuleana - both our responsibilities and our privileges - to ensure that these words are accompanied by actions. We affirm Indigenous sovereignty and commit collectively and individually to being in good relationship with Indigenous peoples, with non-human beings, and with the land and water, including through the restoration of the lands where we live and work to their Native people.
